The Kia Sorento, coming off a redesign for 2021, offers a distinctive value proposition among its three-row SUVs. It has a lower price tag than its competitors. In 2022, the Sorento will return with some prominent changes to its trim roster. In fact, what is most apparent is a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model which is adding. The 2022 Sorento’s gas-only model will get a small price increase which will start at $30,665. Pricing at $36,165 is the Hybrid models are pricing from $35,165. Moreover, the PHEV’s price does still stay under wraps (which includes all prices as well as the destination).
Kia Sorento Engine Choices
For 2021, the Sorento offered three engine choices: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, turbo 2.5-liter four-cylinder, and a turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid. In fact, the 2022 Sorento PHEV does add a fourth powertrain option. It does balance efficiency with increased power: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. It is also pairing with a 13.8-kilowatt-hour battery and 66.9-kilowatt electric motor. Moreover, the PHEV will make 261 collective horsepower (an increase of 34 over the standard hybrid). Moreover, it is expecting to have an all-electric range of 32 miles and a projected rating of 79 mpg-equivalent. It will be offered in two trims: SX and SX-P.
Front-Wheel-Drive for Hybrid
The Sorento Hybrid for 2021 only came in a front-wheel drive. However, the all-wheel-drive option has been adding for the 2022 Sorento Hybrid S and EX models. There is an additional $1,800-$2,300 depending on the trim for the AWD Sorento Hybrid over the FWD model.
Trim Packages for X-Line
The X-Line Package is now offering on the S, EX, and SX-P trim for 2022. It was previously only offering on the top SX-P model. This is a package that adds AWD with a center-locking differential and drives mode selection. Moreover, there is a more rugged exterior with particular bumpers, roof rack, wheels, exterior trim, and X-Line badging. The X-Line Package does add $2,000-$3,700 depending on the trim.
