DENVER, Colorado — A woman who allegedly drove drunk and caused a crash that killed her passenger and injured two others has been charged with vehicular homicide in Denver.
Karla Arellano, 25, was also charged with vehicular assault-DUI, no driver’s license and failure-to-yield on Thursday, the Denver District Attorney’s office said.
Arellano was at the wheel May 11 driving south on Tower Road at East 43rd Avenue when she turned in front of a northbound vehicle, resulting in a car crash, the Denver District Attorney’s office said. The crash killed one passenger in Arellano’s car and injured another. The driver of the other vehicle was also seriously injured.
Police Department found open liquor bottles in Arellano’s car and she told an officer she had consumed three Corona beers earlier, according to an arrest affidavit.
The next scheduled appearance at the court for Arellano is on May 31.
